Troy McLawhorn Was Doing Construction Work Before Evanescence Called Him (2013)

In August 2013, during Evanescence's hiatus, guitarist Troy McLawhorn was interviewed by Munib Nawaz from Radio1 FM 91 Pakistan.

The interview lasted for more than 47 minutes, but at 26:40 Troy told us that before Evanescence's tour manager (Andrew Weiss) called him to fill in for John LeCompt who left in 2007, he was doing a construction work in Miami.

He said that he couldn't find any job in Atlanta, so he became a construction worker to build a mall in Miami. When Evanescence called him, he was very excited.

He had to learn 20+ songs from Evanescence in a short time, but since he grew up playing in bands where he played cover songs, he didn't really have a hard time doing it.

Amy Lee Didn't Credit Herself for the Success of Other Female-Fronted Rock Bands (2013)

An interview of Amy Lee by ScuzzTV, the highest-rated rock and metal TV station on UK satellite.

One of the interesting parts of the interview is when Amy revealed that she hated the rap in Bring Me To Life. Turned out that when Evanescence was signed, the band was forced by their record label to hire a full-time male rapper for the band, but they refused. They only agreed to use a male vocalist (Paul McCoy of 12 Stones) in Bring Me To Life.

After Evanescence released Fallen, female-fronted rock bands like Lacuna Coil and Nightwish got much more attention (they've been around for a long time before Evanescence), and when Scuzz asked her about that, she answered that she did not credit herself for that, but regarding women in rock, she said "the more the merrier".

Amy also revealed that the cover for the single Together Again was her artwork. The sales of the single were donated to earthquake victims in Haiti in 2010.

Amy Lee - Voice TV Interview (2007)

Amy Lee's interview with Voice TV, Finland in 2007. In this video, Amy is talking about touring, the story behind Call Me When You're Sober (about her ex-boyfriend, Shaun Morgan of Seether), and more, including band changes.

She said that Troy McLawhorn and Will Hunt, who filled in for John and Rocky at the time - not permanent members yet -, were great musicians. She also stated that ex-band mates John and Rocky had moved on to "something bigger" because they didn't just want to be touring musicians for Evanescence, they wanted to write songs too, but it didn't work out. Rocky ended up selling Evanescence's plaques on Ebay for $500 a pop.

Evanescence - "Watching the crowd helps us get into the show" (2012)

Troy, Will, Amy, Terry, and Tim

An interview with the whole members of Evanescence when they were in Santiago, Chile in October 2012.

In this interview, they said that watching the crowd jump up and down and enjoy the show also helped them put on a great concert. If the crowd was boring, it was also boring for them to play.

Here's another short interview:

Evanescence - "We Don't Get Into Politics and Religion" (2012)

An interview backstage with Evanescence before they played at Pepsi Music Festival 2012 in Argentina.

The interviewer asked a question about the U.S. presidential election in 2012, and they said that they didn't get into politics and religion (even though some people considered them as a Christian band back in the day) because they had so many fans with different beliefs, and that all of the band members also had different beliefs. Will Hunt added that talking politics would never end up good as everyone had different opinions.

The interviewer also asked of whether music could be mixed with politics, and since Evanescence never talked about politics in their songs, Amy Lee said it's everyone's choice but it's not theirs.

Here's another interview with them:

In the previous tour, The Open Door, John LeCompt and Rocky Gray were still in the band. The fans were very enthusiastic, and the band members had a chance to visit some parts of Buenos Aires. They even went to a fortune teller (who was apparently not a real fortune teller).

Amy Lee - "I can't eat 3 hours before the show" (2012)

Evanescence's Amy Lee at a Show in Brazil, 2012

An audio interview with Amy Lee conducted by LA X - FM (103.9), Bogota, Colombia when the band was still in Brazil.

Note: The actual interview lasts for about 7 minutes and 30 seconds, while the rest they played "The Other Side".

In this interview, Amy said that she loved Twitter as it's a great means to connect with the fans directly. When the interviewer asked about her specific ritual before each show, she answered these:

  • She couldn't eat about 3 hours before the show
  • The band had sound-check and invited some fans to watch and get autographs
  • She tried to be quiet / not talk too much
  • Hung out with the guys for a few minutes, did some stretching, and listened to some music

Amy Lee - "Rock In Rio 2011 was a hard show" (2012)

Did you go to / watch the video of Evanescence's performance at Rock In Rio last 2011? Turned out that the it was little bit of hard show according to Amy Lee.

The band was excited about the show, but then the guitar was in the wrong key when they played the very first song (What You Want), and that the rest of the show she was bummed out.

However, the show in Rio de Janeiro on October 4, 2012 was satisfying and she said it was a "redemption". She also said that the guys from The Used (whom they're touring with) were very nice.

Amy Lee's Answer on the "Lost In Paradise" Video Rumor (2012)

Amy having an interview with MTV

Here's an interview with Amy Lee conducted by MTV Brazil on October 8, 2012.

When asked about the rumor that they'd take the gap between the concert at Sao Paulo to the ones in the North East to shoot the video for the highly anticipated single "Lost In Paradise", Amy denied it since they were just concentrating on the tour.

In this interview Amy also admitted that she loved all kinds of music, including Mozart, Michael Jackson, Pantera, and Lykke Li.

Old-school Tim McCord (Pre-Evanescence) - Interview + Pics (2003)

Tim in Revolution Smile's music video "Bonethrower"
Tim's interview with Toazted back in 2003 about The Revolution Smile

I decided to post this after I read Tim's tweet today:

Since Tim's claim to fame was when he joined Evanescence back in 2006, many fans are actually still curious about what he did and what he looked like in the past.

Sigh...So if you're a type of fan who've for some reasons ever been curious about Tim McCord's hair just like you are about Justin Bieber's hair evolution, here are some pictures of him with long hair when he was still a guitarist in the band "The Revolution Smile":

And here's the video clip where you can see Tim headbang so freakin' hard:

Evanescence Surprised By How Many Guy Fans Showed Up at Their Shows (2012)

An Evanescence interview uploaded by EMI Argentina (who also uploaded the unplugged session at Big FM Germany). Apparently, this video was taken when they were touring in Germany around May 2012, but EMI Argentina uploaded this in August 2012.

Bassist Tim McCord told the interviewer that getting a 3 or 4-day safari in Africa was one of their favorite experiences, and Troy McLawhorn revealed that he was surprised of how many guys came to their show because "most guys like super heavy stuff" and their music had more elements than just raw rock.

Find out more on what they thought about their long-awaited come back, their favorite places of touring, the song "Lost In Paradise", rules within the band while touring, and others in this video.

Will Hunt - "We're in a weird time of music in general" (2012)

Evanescence drummer Will Hunt was interviewed by Pop Culture Madness on August 2012 when the band was in New Jersey for the Carnival of Madness Tour.

In this 14-minute interview, the interviewer asked him about the state of rock music, he said music generally was in a weird time, and rock music would never be where it used to be but it didn't matter because there's always fans that would love it.

Will also revealed that his most difficult transition was switching from Black Label Society to Evanescence (he left BLS in 2011 to re-join Evanescence) because of the different style of music, and that he and guitarist Troy McLawhorn had been writing some new music, but it was more for a Dark New Day record.

Amy Lee - "I committed a lot of fashion crimes in high school" (2012)

Here's another interview from Fuse (intimate interview). They uploaded different videos previously - about her favorite pop songs, the new album and going underground, and a fan also uploaded another video on YouTube when she was interviewed on Fuse's Top 20 Countdown.

In this interview, Amy Lee admitted that her biggest fear as a kid was giant shark because she watched Jaws when she was a little girl. Other questions were:

  • What was the grossest junk food you've eaten recently?
  • What was your dorkiest hobby growing up?
  • Have your parents ever taken you to a concert?
  • What was your biggest fashion crime in high school?

Amy's Favorite Part of Writing? When You Finish Writing Song (2012)

This interview was uploaded by Fuse TV on August 9, 2012.

Trying To Categorize Evanescence? Stop It - NJ.Com Interview (2012)

In an interesting interview by NJ.com (before playing at the House of Blues, Atlantic City, for Carnival of Madness Tour), Evanescence was asked several questions, including about how could they be categorized - metal, rock, goth, pop genre or anything else.

In some interviews, Amy Lee had stated that they were more of an alternative rock band, and in another she said that labels in general could just go away. In this interview, drummer Will Hunt said that they couldn't really be categorized, just like how would you categorize Coheed and Cambria.

While people often regard Evanescence as "goth", Amy Lee emphasized in an interview on Atlantic City Weekly that she didn't want to be tossed in that bin and that she only wanted to make music.

After Evanescence's huge mainstream success from the previous albums and they were able to develop their fan base, Amy stated that she was glad that Evanescence was at the point when rock had become more of the underground again in a lot of ways.

A couple of facts you'll find in this interview:

- They don't want you to use your iPad to take pictures at their concert because it blocks your face

Google Hangout with Evanescence (2012)

Evanescence having fun with the Google effect

Note: The video lasts for 27 minutes, but there was actually a technical problem from 05:31 to 19:00.

Evanescence "hanging out" with the fans during the Carnival of Madness Tour on July 31, 2012 and having fun with the "Google effects" (seems that Amy liked the virtual cat mask one).

Evanescence and the fans were using Google+ mobile app to join a hangout. The fans asked some questions and the band answered them. When asked about a specific goal before they step away from the music business, the band answered that they wanted to have "a show on the moon".

Carnival of Madness was the first tour after the band took a break (the last show was at Heineken Jammin' Festival in Italy, July 5, 2012).

Carnival of Madness Tour featuring Evanescence

The show was started by an awkward conversation on bras being thrown on stage. When a fan asked about the "Lost In Paradise" music video, Amy Lee revealed that she already had ideas but hadn't had the time. She also revealed that they planned to play the bonus track "Disappear" from the band's self-titled album live.
